My thoughts and opinions about photography

What Drives My Photography

A good question, I love nature and I love the challenge of trying to capture images that reflect my interests and make me happy. I also hope that people who see my images also like those images.

I’m not a strictly nature photographers I do like cityscapes and other types of photography but focus on nature. I love the challenge of working on an area and trying to find that potentially great image. I would love to say that there are always good images to be had but that would not be true. Some days the light or other conditions just don’t make for a good image and when that happens, I just leave my camera in the bag and enjoy the experience. That has not always been my attitude if you look back through my lightroom catalog you would find many times when despite taking a lot of pictures I didn’t really capture any good images.

The three key lessons that I have learned over the years that I have been actively working on my photography skills;

1.       If you are not out there you can’t get that great image. While it doesn’t always work out, it will never work out if you don’t get off the couch.

2.       Despite my GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) problem some of my favorite images were taken with a Nikon D-60 with a kit lens.  The gear doesn’t matter as much as getting out taking pictures and working on your skills.

3.       Being more thoughtful about what images I take while on a photo shoot. Paying attention to the composition, watching out for what’s in the background and getting a sharp image.
